OUR BELIEFS

Individual
pathways,
shared purpose

At the heart of Temple Society Australia is a simple aim — to help make the world a better place by living the Golden Rule: to treat others as we would like to be treated.

Each of us follows our own path of faith and understanding. We bring different experiences, questions and perspectives. What we share is a common purpose.

Our faith is not defined by rigid belief statements. It is shown in how we live, how we act and how we care for others.

We share a commitment to live thoughtfully, to act with compassion and to contribute in meaningful ways to our community and the wider world.

Living the Golden Rule

1

Individual pathways

We believe no one should be compelled to adopt a single definition of faith.

Understanding and experiencing God is a deeply personal journey that unfolds over a lifetime. It is shaped by conscience, reflection and lived experience, and may be expressed in various ways at different stages of life.

By respecting individual spiritual paths, we create space for authenticity, questioning and growth — allowing faith to remain alive rather than constrained by fixed doctrine.

2

What brings us together

We value individual conscience and freedom of thought but what unites us is a shared commitment to live well together.

We are guided by Jesus’ teaching to love God and love your neighbour. For us, this means living with integrity, treating others fairly and taking responsibility for the world around us.

Community matters most to us because faith is not meant to be lived alone. When people act with trust, respect and care — and work side by side — they can help shape a more just and compassionate world.

Different paths. Shared purpose.

3

A shared
guiding principle

Our direction as a community comes from these words:

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” — Matthew 6:33

For us, this is more than a belief. It shapes how we live.

Seeking “God’s kingdom” means placing what truly matters first — justice, compassion and responsibility. It calls us to live with integrity in everyday decisions and relationships.

This is not about a distant future or supernatural events. It is about working, here and now, for greater fairness, peace and harmony — in our own lives, in our community and in the wider world.

4

Faith in practice

Within the Temple Society, faith is lived through everyday life:

  • Living with trust and integrity

  • Treating others with care and respect

  • Taking responsibility for our actions and our environment

  • Learning, reflecting and growing in understanding

  • Supporting one another through all stages of life

These practices turn belief into action and strengthen both individual faith and community life.

5

No creeds, doctrine
or dogma

We do not follow a formal creed or require members to affirm a fixed set of doctrines.

Instead, we value freedom of conscience and thoughtful engagement with faith. Each person is encouraged to reflect, question and grow in their own understanding, guided by experience, reflection and shared values.

This openness allows faith to remain alive, relevant and deeply personal.

Making the world a better place, together

Beliefs in everyday life

Our beliefs find meaning when they are lived — through community life, shared reflection and care for others.

Whether you’re curious, exploring faith or seeking deeper involvement, there are many ways to engage more deeply with our faith and spiritual life.
